Light ghost

“I saw the blog at scienceofghosts.wordpress … pretty interesting stuff. I’ve got my own submission for you here. The story behind this picture is this: I was visiting Machu Picchu a few summers ago. The photo was taken from my hotel at agua calientes at the river below the site, on the morning we were heading up to see the
ruins. When I took the picture there was nothing out of the ordinary in front of me, I was trying to document the strangeness of our hotel, since it had no roof! I’ve tried to enhance the figure on the stairs to pull out the face and it looks like possible some sort of ornate necklace… and I think I see his leg bleeding. The energy bolt on the right is pretty interesting as well, looks like a double
helix. I’ve included the original and the enhanced version. Let me know what you think!

Cloud Ghost

“This picture was taken on Sept. 8,1973. I saw it at my mother inlaws house several years ago. She explained that her 1 1/2 year old niece had died and they had all gathered at her parents (the grandparents) home and she had been taking pictures of family and when there was only one picture left on the roll she handed the camera to my husband who was then about 14, and told him to take the last shot. He just pointed at the sky and when the pictures were developed this is what was on the film. You can clearly see a man in a robe with a belted waist and see his hands and barely make out the face which appears to have a beard.This was the day the baby died. I would like your take on the picture”

Train Ghost

“i’d like t sumbit a photo re ‘ghost’ photograph project. I found an article in Metro paper last week and thought of a photo taken in 2007. Me and me wife were traveling from Lhasa to Beijing on the high altitude train.Photo was taken from inside the train that run at about 80-100km/h speed at that time.

It was well above 4000m altitude somewhere at Qinghai plateau in China.I wasn’t looking much outside the window just wanted to take a panorama photo,surely when taking the photo i didn’t see the man from the photo standing where he appears on the picture.I think that would be rather impossible for anybody to stand there as the man would be then 1-2 meters from the running train.defenitely we felt spooky afterwards.”

Ghost in window

“My husband and I visited Witley Court a couple of years ago and when looking over our pictures we found the following image. It is important to note that there are NO floors in this building because they were completely destroyed by a fire. It was a very overcast day and actually down poured not long after this picture was taken. I have shown it around and have never told people what is in the upstairs alcove, they have always found it themselves. The English Heritage staff at Witley Court felt that it was light reflections off my SLR camera. No one else is convinced by their comments”

“This picture was taken at Bachelors Grove Cemetery just outside of Chicago IL around noon in August 2005. The picture was taken with a Canon AE-1, 50mm lens with a hoya red filter and Kodak IR film. Also, just to note, double exposures are not possible on the AE-1 without significant modification and this camera has definitely not been modified. ”

Ghost in next room

“I have a pair of photographs I would like you to see. They were taken by my father in law around 10 years ago. They are a pair, taken on a very old digital camera and apparently very close together time wise. Oner of them is normal, the second one has a full blown apparition of a woman in the background. To explain, the two children are his grandkids. Above their heads is a square glass aparture that allows light into the hallway. As you can see, behind this on the second picture is a woman, as clear as day. Nobody in the family recognizes this woman or knows who she is. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.”

Ghost on pier

“I have taken this photograph in Hastings in 2006, September. I would like you to take a look at the far distance pier where it’s visible a white silhouette. At first I did not notice the white figure as my intent was to photograph the boat. When a friend pointed out to me, I thought that it had to be a person but then I realised that it would be impossible to jump the distance, which separates the two piers.

I would like to know what people think. The picture has been taken with a Pentax P50.

I have cut the photograph so that you can zoom in and see the white figure more clearly.”

Ghost near fan

“I thought i would submit this one my friend took in my house, my dad currently lodges the rooms and my mate was staying with us until he witnessed what seems to be a ghost , he managed to get picture of it coming through his door , he swears blind that it was real what he saw and i’ve always wanted to get it checked out , we always hear stuff at night and our house is 110 year old so i’m guessing it is authentic? .my friend moved out 2 weeks after he saw the ghost so it fairly spookd him , picture was taken with a sony erikson k800i .”

“I just read the article about the ghost picture on Yahoo. I attach a picture of my husband with what appears to be a little girl in pink on the balcony to the upper right of the picture. The picture was taken outside a museum in Amsterdam.”

TV ghost

“Please find attached a photo which I thought may interest you. This photo is unedited and completely genuine. The photo was taken with a new camera phone by one of my friends in 2007. Interestingly if you adjust the brightness/contrast of the picture it makes parts of the image more visible. It is especially strange as the arm goes in front of the television. The face appears to also be a different shade to the area around it, this is as above more visible when the altering the brightness/contrast. I would be most interested in the response from your photograph experts.”

Initial results out!

The results of this project will be discussed in depth at Hauntings: The Science of Ghosts on the 4th April at the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

However, we have released some initial results today, and they are being reported by media across the world, with pieces in The Times, The Daily Mail, The Scotsman, The Daily Express, The Sun, The Metro, and Fox News.

Candle ghost

“These were taken in our home in France, just after we moved here in 2004. It was a nice evening and we were all outside and we took a few pictures on my digital camera. The two pictures I’m attaching clearly show ‘something’ or ‘someone’ in the background, and we regularly have the sensation that somebody else is here. We call our ghost Roland, as that was the name of the person who used to live here before he was killed along with his wife and grandson in a car accident. We’ve never seen him, apart from on these pictures where we think he just wanted to come and join in!

These pictures have not been re-touched (I wouldn’t even know how to begin!) – we just enjoy showing them to friends and people around the village, who have told us that the second picture (137) does indeed bear a striking resemblance to Roland…”

Ghost behind bars

“Attached is a picture i took when walkin around an old abandoned mental asylum (whittingham hospital ) in preston .. just walking past and took the picture into the room many sightings have been seen there due to the terrible torture and violence that happened there to which me and a few mates were urbexin .. basically ghost hunts and stuff .
the picture was taken from the corridor outside the room in which the wall had fallen through in parts and the framing inside the wall remains . when i retured home and developed the picture amoung them was this one .

if you look you can see what looks to be a woman led down as if to be floating ( head on left ) she seems to have black hair and you can make her nose and eyes out and what possibly looks like a baby led across the chest . It sure does not look like a trick of light so that will hard to believe . ”
